Seven traditional Cayman catboats are expected to take to the North Sound for the annual David Foster Memorial Race, celebrating Cayman’s seafaring heritage and the generations of craftsmen and sailors who helped preserve the catboat tradition.
The race honours the late David Wade Foster, a founding member of the Cayman Maritime Heritage Foundation and an important supporter of the Cayman Catboat Club.
Depending on wind conditions, the sailing portion of the event is expected to take approximately three hours, with crews relying on traditional sailing skills across waters once travelled by generations of Caymanian fishermen, turtlers and traders.
